DREAM COME TRUE

Hello All,

I apologize for not having posted anything for a very long time. It's been a year since I last performed live, although it seems like a lifetime. I have taken this time off to support my husband (who is an engineer) with his new venture. I also wanted to spend some time with my son who is now in high school.

I don't know if most of you know this but singing and writing songs is something I began only 5 years ago! My first live show ever was Sept 2005 and at that time I was still learning how to sing!! I have no doubt that the audience was well aware of that :) I had a dream which began with me wanting to understand how to sing. I had absolutely NO musical background except for the fact that I was a pro ballet dancer at one time. One day a song came to me and I hurried home to hum the tune to my husband (who is a musician as well) and that song eventually became "Alone" one of 10 songs on my first album "Alive". Over the past 5 years I have performed at numerous Ontario venues & festivals, I have been on a radio tour across Canada, I have written and recorded 2 albums, I have had the opportunity of working with some amazing musicians, producers, music engineers and the list goes on. All this has MORE than exceeded a middle aged (not THAT middle aged) womans dreams. Whether or not this is the end of my musical journey is yet unknown. All that I know is that the music "world" takes a lot of money when you're pursuing it independently. At this point in my life I am satisfied & proud of my great achievements and I say that with humility. It is now time to focus on my son and my family and if my husbands new venture brings us in enough cash to finance another album, I'll be there in a heart beat! I have dozens of songs waiting to be heard....Until that time, I thank all the people who have supported my dream, for without dreams we are not alive inside. I thank my husband Jeff who co-wrote all the songs with me, encouraged me and supported me and who is the best singer I have ever heard!!

I see life as a journey of discovering as much as we can about ourselves & others around us. It is an opportunity to learn lessons, to try new things and to hopefully better ourselves in the long run. I have enjoyed this musical journey and I hope you have enjoyed my music.

Be well and follow your dreams no matter how big!

Love, peace and light,

Oh What A Year!

Hey All,
For those of you who are visiting my blog for the first time, welcome!! From this point on I will be writing about my life as well as my music. I have been taking time to enjoy life lately and learn about nutrition, alternative medicine and other important issues which I will get into in future blogs.
For now, I would like to look back on what a wonderful year I had in 2009. Musically, I released my second album "Heart & Soul" where I tried my hand at alt country/country. My husband and I went on a radio tour across Canada where I did several live radio interviews. From that tour, two of my songs were played on Country radio stations across Canada. My song Addicted 2U brought me to #10 Canadian Country Female on the Trax Report. I also had the opporunity of opening for the Wilkinsons at the Sound of Music Festival in Burlington as well as Murray M. at the Oakville Waterfront festival. Along with my husband, we also performed our songs as part of the Nashville Songwriters Association, Tin Pan North. I had the opportunity of co-writing with two great Canadian songwriters, with Steve Fox I wrote "Gasoline" and with Larry Wayne Clark, I wrote "Anything For You" in Nashville (yet to be recorded). While in Nashville I met Vince Gill and saw him perform my FAVORITE song "What You Give Away". Finishing the year off, my album was nominated for Best Country Recording at the Hamilton Music Awards in December! Phew...In 2010 I was also featured on the CCMA page in the "On The Horizon" section.
It really was a great year! I have to say that as much as I love country music, I'm not sure that my writing style lends to "traditional" country. My style sits more in the "alt country" genre however some of my songs are more pop, some rock, some bluesy...I guess that's what being an independent artist is all about. I am still thinking over my next album and saving up money. If you like what you hear, please consider purchasing my EP on my official website www.anniemarleau.com to help fund my next album. Also, check out some of my old tunes from my first album "Alive" on my myspace page www.myspace.com/anniemarleau.
Until the next time, be safe, be kind and be true to YOU!
Love, peace and light,
